The Orient Express: the most luxurious train in the world



The Orient-Express is a mythical train that was first inaugurated in 1883 by Georges Nagelmackers, a Belgian entrepreneur. It was always associated to characteristics such as elegance, luxury and culinary excellence. A restored model of the train come back, since 1982, to service in some of the biggest cities in Europe. Its History is an imperishable source of inspiration for writers such as Agatha Christie.

The orient express was always known as the most romantic, intriguing, mysterious long-distance train travel.


On board

You can now visit Europe as if you were part of a black and white movie. Welcome to the mystic Venice Simplon-Orient-Express where we try to recreate the journey of the past. Everything is like how it was in the past: the art deco marquetry, the furniture, the tapestry, the generous armchair seats in the three dining-cars … The train offers a first class, 5 stars service in the state of mind of travel.

Indeed, to travel on the Orient-Express is to step back in time to the best that train travel had to offer in the 1920s. With high quality décor; cabins with comfortable upper and lower beds are identically sized, lavatories at the end of the corridor, and there are no showers; passengers are buying an authentic experience of period travel. The bar car with piano is the social hub of the train.

Foodies will enjoy high gastronomy from the chef’s cooking, Christian Bodiguel. It consists of refined French cuisine, is to Michelin-star standard. The meals, are served with silverware, crystal glass and starched napery, are the highlight for many passengers.

To make the most of the experience, dress up! Most passengers make the effort to complement the setting, so pack black tie and evening dresses for dinner and smart casual during the day. Some parties dress in period fashions. Jeans are never acceptable.


Routes

The original Orient Express rushed between Paris and Istanbul, whereas today, new routes were developed. Today, it links its three principal routes from London via Paris and Venice. The Venice Simplon-Orient express connects London to Venice in One night. The train departs from London Victoria station, in Paris the train uses the same station from which the first Orient Express, on October 4th 1883, departed Gare de l’Est.

To get to Venice, the train as to pass through England, France, Northern Switzerland and Italia. During the whole trip passengers can admire beautiful and typical landscapes from each countries they go through.

Other departures can be from Venice to Copenhagen and Stockholm. Only once a year ther Orient-Express takes the original 1883 route between Paris and Istanbul going through Budapest and Bucharest.


Time

The train is in function from late March to early November on various itineraries lasting from a day to a six nights travel.
